AS Troyes Poker: a club website that keeps its rankings current

At a poker club the Friday night question is “where am I in the rankings?”. Results live in a spreadsheet; here we import that spreadsheet as it is, and the answer is online the next morning.

In short

Tourak Digital Group built the website of AS Troyes Poker, a non-profit poker club in Troyes, France. It covers the club, league rules (season, points scale, final-table bonus, qualifying for the final), the tournament calendar, rankings and news. Organisers run everything from an admin panel, including importing results from an Excel file.

What the site includes

What visitors can do on it

  • Live league rules: season structure and points system
  • Player rankings updated after each game night
  • Main Event page
  • Online league
  • Club news

The club

A non-profit that runs live tournaments at real tables in Troyes, beginners and regulars together. The season revolves around a league: regular rounds, an annual ranking, a big final. Membership opens mainly in January, within the places available, with a waiting list when the club is full.

The problem

A points scale, bonuses and rounds spread over two Fridays get complicated fast. At many clubs, results go into a spreadsheet, get copied, then posted. Every copy is a chance for an error, and ranking errors at a poker club get argued about for weeks.

What we delivered

  • A league page explaining the points with a worked example.
  • Rankings calculated from results.
  • Calendar, main event page and news.
  • An admin panel: edit text in place, post news, import the night’s Excel file and let rankings recalculate.

Over seventy routes and a dozen-plus data tables, so volunteers do nothing by hand.

Under the hood

Node.js, Express, EJS templates and SQLite on O2Switch: light, reliable and cheap to run for a non-profit. Sports club in Meknes? See website design.

Who it’s for

Club players first: they check the next tournament date, their ranking and the league rules without having to ask anyone.

Then people who haven’t joined yet. They see what the club is, how membership works and how to get in touch. The volunteers keep everything current from the admin area.
