Meknes and around
Web design in Moulay Idriss Zerhoun
Lots of visitors come for Volubilis. They walk the Roman ruins and drive back to Meknes or Fes the same day. The holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun is 4 km away. A guesthouse that shows up at the right moment, in the right language, can turn some of those day trips into a night.
A holy town, and words to match
The town grew around the tomb of Idris I, founder of the Idrisid dynasty, who has rested here for twelve centuries. It spreads over two hills, Khiber and Tasga, in the Zerhoun massif. Morocco put it on its tentative World Heritage list in 1995. Every August the moussem brings tens of thousands of pilgrims.
Writing for international guests means getting the facts right. Entry to the shrine is for Muslims only, and a good guesthouse site says so plainly. The cylindrical minaret of the Sentissi mosque, covered in green tiles, is the only one of its kind in Morocco and worth pointing out. No slogans. No photos from inside the sanctuary.
From day trip to overnight stay
Visitors type precise things. “Where to stay near Volubilis.” “Guesthouse Moulay Idriss.” “Riad with view Zerhoun.” A guesthouse with a page for each of those, with its own terrace and room photos, has every chance of showing up.
English matters more here than in most towns around. Plenty of Volubilis visitors read neither French nor Arabic, and a page written for them, not run through a translator, answers their questions before they ask. Parking. The walk up from the square. Breakfast times. The view.
Relying a bit less on booking platforms
Look up a guesthouse in town by name. Airbnb, Kayak or some online travel agency often come up before its own site, if it has one, and every booking through them costs the owner a commission.
A website in your own name won’t replace the platforms overnight. What it does is win back returning guests, referrals, and travellers who’d rather write to the host directly. On it go the rooms with real photos and how many they sleep, a booking request form and a direct number, directions on foot and by car with a map, and an availability calendar kept up to date through the moussem.
Zerhoun olive oil, sold online
The massif is covered in olive trees. Producers and cooperatives selling oil by the roadside can also reach Casablanca, Rabat and Moroccans abroad with a simple online shop. A few products, honest photos, the harvest date, delivery options.
We build the shop and show you how to run it. Prices, sales and shipping stay with you. Our general approach is on the Meknes page, and neighbouring Toulal has its own.
Photos: what goes up, what stays out
Guests choose with their eyes. We publish what’s yours, the rooms, the terrace, breakfast, the view over the town and the Volubilis plain. We leave out the inside of the shrine, and the faces of neighbours or passers-by who haven’t said yes.
Every photo gets a written description in English, French and Arabic. That way your pictures also turn up in image search, where a lot of travellers look before deciding.

Frequently asked questions
My guesthouse is already on booking platforms. Why have a website?
Platforms bring new guests and take their cut. Your site is for people who already know you, or who were sent by someone who does. They book with you directly.
Should my site be in English if most guests are Moroccan?
Keep Arabic and French for Moroccan families, especially around the August moussem. Add English if you host people coming for Volubilis. Each version written for its own readers.
Do you sell our olive oil for us?
No. We build the shop and make it visible. Production, prices, delivery and your customers stay with you.
