Can I redesign my website without losing Google rankings?

The risk in a redesign is breaking what already worked. A page ranking well disappears, and calls drop overnight.

The short answer

Yes, if every old URL is mapped and redirected with a 301 to its new equivalent, the content that ranks is kept, and the domain stays the same. Check Search Console after launch for errors. Tourak Digital Group audits the existing site for free before proposing a redesign.

Before touching anything

List every URL the current site has, plus the ones Google has indexed and the ones that bring visits. That list is the safety net.

During the switch

  • A 301 redirect from each old address to its closest new page.
  • Same domain name.
  • Content that ranks is kept or improved, not thrown away.
  • Titles and descriptions carried over or rewritten carefully.

After launch

Watch Search Console for errors and pages dropping out. Fix them fast.

See SEO, website design and ask for an audit through contact.

Frequently asked questions

When is a redesign worth it?

When the site is slow on mobile, you cannot edit it, it does not show on Google for your trade, or it lacks the languages your customers use.

Will rankings dip at all?

Some movement in the first weeks is common; with proper redirects it settles.
